Introductory Woodturning Course

Due to continuing requests, the Bytown Woodturners Guild is now offering an Introductory Woodturning Course.  This course is taught by three instructors, and is limited to three attendees.  Each attendee will have their own OneWay lathe and Thompson tools to work with over three days.  Beginners will learn the basics of turning safely and intermediate turners will have the opportunity to refine their skills.

The course cost for the three days is $350 for Guild members, $450 for non-members (which includes a full-year membership to the Guild).  Course attendees are required to provide their own face masks.  All other materials are provided by the Guild.  The course is presented at our regular meeting place, the Dulude Arena on Clyde Ave.

If you would like to enrol or have further questions, please contact the Guild via email at [email protected].

April Course to be held on:  12, 13, 19    (Course is now full.)

June Course to be held on: 17, 18, 19.   (One opening remains.)

Next Generation at the Lathe

Granddaughter of long-time Guild member Anthony, is learning how to use a lathe.  Her first projects were Christmas presents:  a bowl for her Mom and a pen for her Dad,  Anthony says, "She's very proud of the result and wants to do more. I'm happy to work with her because it improves my skills as well. Especially teaching, which I haven't done for years.  She's a quick study and actually did 90% of the work."

Trevor Myles Gifts Bowls to Senator Julie Milville-Dechêne

June 2020 - Our very own Guild member, Trevor Myles, gifted two bowls to Senator Milville-Dechêne, as a token of his appreciation for her coming from Montreal to see the Gatineau Park. She wanted to see the problematic areas of the Park before she tables a bill to pass legislative protection to stop the NCC from allowing homes being built in the park boundaries.  Trevor told her he  turned the bowls from  cherry and ash sourced from the area and gifted them to her as a memory of her visit to the park.  She loves them, and kept rubbing both saying how smooth they were and loved the grain. Well done Trevor!
